The "Member Recognition Awards" are presented at the GFOABC Annual Conference. To promote excellence in government service and government finance, GFOABC annually awards individuals who have made significant contributions in the area of local government finance. Awards are presented for outstanding performance and achievement as well as for innovative ideas that will benefit others in the field.
Candidates for Awards can be nominated for any of the following categories:
Life Member Award
The Life Member Award will be bestowed upon a member for significant contributions to local government. The Life Member distinction recognizes the member’s dedication throughout their career to the work of the GFOA, promoting education, peer support and networking to enhance professional skills within local government. To be eligible for consideration for this award, a member must have a minimum of 10 years membership in GFOA.
Outstanding Achievement Award
The Outstanding Achievement Award is to recognize an achievement of a member by peers and possibly other organizations, as well as being acknowledged by GFOA as extraordinary and unique. The achievement should be specific to the municipal sector. The achievement could be a contribution that advances the cause and mandate of the GFOA.
Innovative Idea Award
The Innovative Idea Award is to recognize originality/creativity of a program/project that has overall significance to local government. The program/project should be a financial or technical advancement, improving a process significantly with proven cost/benefits and has garnered some form of recognition from the municipal sector.
Outstanding Contribution Award
The Outstanding Contribution Award is to recognize a member or supporter who has made a significant contribution to the GFOA of BC over a number of years. The nominee need not be active as a GFOA member, but must have been a long-time supporter and made a significant contribution to the success of the organization
To nominate an individual, team, or initiative, a written nomination submission must be provided. The submission should outline the following:
• Select the award category that best fits the nomination.
• Explain why you would like to nominate the individual, team, or initiative for the award category.
• How has the individual, team, or initiative advanced local government finance?
Recipients will receive their award at the 2025 GFOABC Annual Conference.
