We received responses to this question from close to half of all BC local governments of varying populations and geographical locations. Credit cards are accepted by 53% of local government respondents. One third of these local governments accept credit cards for payment for property taxes and more than half accept credit cards as payment for utilities.

Demographics do not seem to be a factor as communities of many sizes, staffing levels, and geographic locations reported accepting credit card payments. Just over half of all local governments reported using Moneris for their merchant processing needs while the remainder were scattered across many providers, with fees ranging from 1.2% to 2.5%.
